Further details and description about the GRADOFLEX language teaching concept

The GRADOFLEX language teaching concept is not a radically new method but rather a fine-tuning of the core approaches already in use. Its foundation lies in Dr. András Györbiró’s two decades of experience as a certified German language teacher, language researcher and telc examiner. Driven by his passion for language instruction and guided by his sociological expertise, Dr. Györbiró has not only thoroughly analyzed his students’ exam results but also conducted thousands of conversations to uncover common pitfalls in language learning. His goal has been to identify the causes of failure and discover strategies to make the process more effective, efficient, and enjoyable.

Why is graduality a key element in the concept and what does it mean precisely?

The German language, being highly systematic and logical, relies heavily on gradual progression for effective learning. A common issue in language learning occurs when students are exposed to tasks or concepts too early—before they fully understand the foundational elements. This can create confusion, causing learners to lose their footing in the process. Graduality ensures that knowledge is built layer by layer, moving to the next step only when the current one is mastered. Exercises and materials must align with this principle. Unfortunately, many available language resources do not follow this approach, leading to frustration and setbacks. Success in this area requires meticulous attention and a carefully curated, multi-layered learning material, which is a core feature of this program.

Graduality also applies to the balanced and incremental development of all aspects of language skills: grammar, vocabulary, practical communication strategies, oral and written communication, reading comprehension, and listening skills. These areas must progress in parallel, gradually expanding. Existing materials rarely provide this level of comprehensive support, which is why we developed our own program.

Why is flexibility a key element in the concept and what does it mean precisely?

Language learners are not only diverse but entirely unique individuals, with varying experiences, life circumstances, linguistic aptitudes, and goals. Ignoring these differences undermines their potential for success. Flexibility is crucial in addressing these individual needs.

The GRADOFLEX methodology uniquely allows for individual considerations even in group settings. A core curriculum serves as the common foundation for all learners. However, beyond this, the extensive methodological materials, exercise booklets, and tailored resources enable personalized learning paths. These can differ in focus and rhythm while maintaining consistently high quality. The goal is to help each learner achieve their maximum potential without negatively impacting others. The idea of opening an independent language school emerged when this methodology reached its full maturity within the GRADOFLEX framework.
